SUMMER READING

Summer Reading: June 1-August 10

Summer Reading begins June 1. Don't miss out on the great prizes.
This summer, from June 1 through August 10, Charleston County Public Library is rewarding everyone for simply reading. Starting Saturday, June 1, sign up at any of our 16 branch locations absolutely free.

Don't Fall Behind: Why Summer Reading Is Important
Watch this short video to see how reading over the summer keeps children moving forward with their learning. If children do not read over the summer, by the time school starts in the fall, they are two months behind those who did read. By fifth grade, the gap between summer readers and non-readers can range as high as 2.5 - 3 years. Mind the gap - visit your public library, and read!

Every Hero Has a Story is for ages 11 and younger. Children receive prizes for reading or listening to stories at levels of 5, 15 and 30 hours. Awards include the S.C. Reading Medal, passes to local attractions, karate lessons and branch grand prizes. Enjoy nearly 700 programs that include magicians, storytellers, live theatre and other exciting events.

Every Baby Needs a Story
is for pre-readers with activity sheets designed for caregivers and babies. Turn it in to win a board book for baby and a free tote bag for baby's grown up.

Check out the fun events and prizes.
