A FEAST OF BOOKS

Do you enjoy cooking?  Cooking has become very popular with all sorts of cooking shows on several different television networks and celebrity chefs on the covers of magazines.  Cookbooks comprise a large section of our library collection.  There are over 500 hundred cookbooks in our catalog.

Maybe though, you consider cooking to be slaving over a hot stove. Do you dread trying to think of something interesting to fix for dinner after a hard day's work at the office or driving children all over town for after-school activities?

Perhaps you'd rather let someone else do the cooking and curl up with a good novel featuring culinary delights!  There are a number of books where food is a main feature.  "Like Water for Chocolate" by Laura Esquivel is a good example of a novel that is centered in a kitchen.  "Chocolat" by Joanne Harris, set in a magical chocolate shop in France, is a book revolving around food. Auguste Escoffier influenced the world of French cooking, and his life is explored in the novel "White Truffles in Winter" by N. M. Kelby. 

There are quite a few culinary mystery series that you might enjoy, and many of them contain recipes.  Some authors who write these series are: Diane Mott Davidson, Jerrilyn Farmer, Alexander Campion, Joanne Fluke, Laura Childs and Peter King.
